Great success for 'Convergence 2005', the major initiative organised for Captains of Ferretti Group yachts over 70 feet
For furher information:
Seventy-five captains from all over the world took part in this year’s Convergence, held from the 7th to the 10th of March at the important nautical centre in La Spezia, the new Ferretti Group production plant on the Tyrrhenian Sea which commenced operation in March 2004. The CEO of Ferretti Group, Giancarlo Galeone, hosted this important event alongside the CEOs of the Group's individual brands, showing their clear commitment to captains, who are such a fundamental part of cruising.
Participants attended a number of presentations organised by Ferretti Group’s R&D and Engineering Departments, outlining the quality controls carried out on the Group’s yachts and providing information about the materials and cutting-edge technologies used on board its various models. Some of the Ferretti Group’s main suppliers – ZF, MAN, SAIM, Rolla and Dockwise – then presented their latest developments.
After a technical refresher course on various situations motor yacht captains deal with daily, the course continued with sea trials carried out onboard Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Riva and Custom Line yachts. This part of the event was organised in close collaboration with La Spezia’s Port Authorities and the Harbour Master’s Office – during the sea trials they also showed participants how to use the onboard safety devices.
The topic of safety was further analysed at the La Spezia Fire Brigade Headquarters, where the captains took part in the course "Professional Handling of Critical Events on board: Fire", and simulated putting out a fire in the engine room.
The Fire Brigade issued them all with certificates of participation. Following the technical presentations, information was given on the latest updates of RINA (the Italian Naval Registry) Standards, dealing with "Rented Yachts: the new Italian safety regulations" and "Onboard Certification".
Lastly, those present had the opportunity to admire the new Riva 115’ model currently being built at the Riva shipyard in La Spezia. Once again, “Convergence” proved to be a worthwhile, captivating event both for the captains, who participated actively and enthusiastically in all activities, and for the Ferretti Group's organising team. Closing comments were followed by presentation of the coveted diplomas testifying to the participants' attendance of an event which has become a fundamental meeting place for all megayacht captains.
